KANSAI HELIOS Austria’s project“Extending PV module service life with backsheet repair coatings” was honored with this year’s Energy Globe Austria Award in the “Earth” category.

The functional coating developed successfully overcomes defects in photovoltaic modules by repairing and reusing valuable materials. At the same time, it makes a long-term contribution to the generation of renewable energy.

Innovative backsheet refinish coatings from KANSAI HELIOS Austria

The award-winning project contributes to overcoming global challenges. Photovoltaic backsheets protect the electrical parts of solar cells and serve as insulators. Unfortunately, failures due to cracks in the plastic (polyamide) occur more frequently, usually after 4 to 7 years, depending on the weather conditions on site. KANSAI HELIOS Austria has solved this problem with an innovative functional coating. Instead of disposing of defective photovoltaic modules completely, they can now be repaired with a coating. This means that the valuable materials can be used for many more years and renewable energy can be produced.

The Energy Globe Award

The Energy Globe Award was created in 1999 by Wolfgang Neumann and is now the world’s most prestigious environmental award. Every year, it honors outstanding sustainable projects in the areas of resource conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energies. The aim is to present innovative solutions to a broad public and raise awareness of sustainable projects. All projects that conserve resources or use renewable energies can take part.
