KANSAI HELIOS Austria receives H. F. Mark Sustainability Award

KANSAI HELIOS Austria Team receiving H. F. Mark Sustainability Award presented by OFI

On 13 October 2026 The project “„EB549Precision – Dünnschicht-Backlack für ressourceneffiziente und energieoptimierte Elektroblechpakete” from the core plate varnish department of KANSAI HELIOS Austria has been honored with the H.F. Mark Sustainability Award, presented by OFI – Austrian Research Institute for Chemistry and Technology.

Small thickness, significant impact

In industrial coatings, innovation is often measured in micrometers. Even small technological advancements can make a meaningful difference when implemented across large-scale manufacturing processes. Our awarded project focuses on a thin-film bonding varnish for electrical steel laminations used in electric motors and generators. These laminations are assembled into bonded core stacks that must meet demanding mechanical and functional requirements. By enabling the required performance with significantly thinner coating layers, the technology supports more efficient material utilization while meeting the needs of modern electrification applications and maintaining the high-performance standards expected by manufacturers.

Recognition for collaborative development

This award reflects the close collaboration between the research, development and application technology teams at KANSAI HELIOS Austria. It underscores the importance of combining expertise across disciplines to develop advanced coating solutions and is a testament to the expertise and dedication of everyone involved in bringing this development from concept to industrial application.

About the H.F. Mark Sustainability Award

The H.F. Mark Sustainability Award complements the long-established H.F. Mark Medal, which has been awarded annually by OFI since 1975. Introduced in 2023, it focuses on completed or near-completed projects that address challenges related to the responsible use of plastic materials. Submitted projects are evaluated by an independent commission.
